Wschodni Express

The publishing activity of Workshops of Culture centers primarily on the Wschodni Express series, which features a wide range of prose, essays, and poetry.

Its authors include some of the most acclaimed writers from Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, and Lithuania, among them Yurii Andrukhovych, Artem Chekh, Andriy Bondar, Oleksandr Boichenko, Andriy Lyubka, Halyna Kruk, Mykola Riabchuk, and Natalka Sniadanko. The series has also published stories by filmmaker and writer Oleg Sentsov, who spent five years in Russian labor camps.

Workshops of Culture is also proud to collaborate with the renowned Polish translator Bohdan Zadura, who for many years has brought Ukrainian prose and poetry closer to Polish readers.

The name Wschodni Express recalls such landmark literary projects as Literaturexpress Europa 2000—in which more than a hundred writers and poets from forty-three countries traveled from Lisbon to Berlin—and Potyah 76 (Train 76), an online magazine devoted to the culture of Central and Eastern Europe.

The Wschodni Express series not only promotes contemporary literature from Poland’s eastern neighbors but also creates a space for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding through literature.
