Barykady na Krzyżu is Jurko Gudź’s final poem. Created during the period of stagnation in the late 1990s, the apocalyptic vision of the clash on the barricades in the centre of the Ukrainian capital came true in the events of Kiev’s Majdan in the winter of 2013-2014. The poem raises questions to what extent literature can reverse, predict, or create reality.
