Józef Łobodowski

Wyzwolenie

A hundred years ago, Józef Łobodowski, a poet, translator, prose writer, and journalist, who was the first advocate of Polish-Ukrainian dialogue, returned to his hometown of Lublin. He arrived in the city in 1922 by train from the Caucasus, where he grew up among the Kuban Cossacks and experienced the poverty and dramatic events of the communist revolution. Recently, his previously unpublished play “Wyzwolenie” (Liberation) was released as part of the “Zakotwiczone” series, providing insight into the socio-political mechanisms of the Great Depression era.
