Tu mieszkał Jonasz | Marius Burokas
The volume contains poems from four volumes of his poetry (Ideogramos, Būsenos, Išmokau nebūti, Švaraus buvimo) and new poems, previously published only in literary journals. The selection shows the development of the poet’s style and presents themes he uses in his work.
Burokas’s poetry is an “x-ray of being”-it charts the “states of acuity” of the lyrical speaker and the world, exposing cracks, gaps, and scars. The poems are “healing wounds,” a journey from non-being to “pure being,” a “purification of the pupils” The poet draws from the folklore of his homeland, Lithuania’s multicultural heritage and the Western tradition, especially the English language.
The book offers two perspectives: it contains poems that the translator finds thematically and artistically interesting for Polish readers, and poems that the author himself finds valuable. This is Burokas’ first publication in Polish.
