Ołeh Sencow | Ukraine
(b. 1976 in Simferopol) – Ukrainian film director, writer, enthusiast of computer games, social activist, participant of the Dignity Revolution. He studied economics and film directing in Moscow. In 2012 he made his debut at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam with the film “Gaamer”. Since 2014 he was a political prisoner, illegally sentenced (2015) to twenty years of labor camp by the Kremlin. He went on a hunger strike in the retreat camp. Many people and organisations in Ukraine, Poland and all over the world called for his release. In 2018, he was awarded, among others, the Sakharov Prize. In 2019, after more than 5 years in prison for alleged terrorist activity, he was released.
