Kateryna Babkina and Bohdan Zadura – winners of the Angelus Award 2021

The Angelus Central European Award has been presented for the 16th time. This year’s winner is a Ukrainian writer, Kateryna Babkina, the author of the book “Nikt tak nie tańczył jak mój dziadek” (“My Grandfather Danced the Best”), while the award for the best translation went to Bohdan Zadura, the translator of the book, a renowned poet, who won the Silesius Wrocław Poetry Award twice over. Babkina’s Angelus marks the fourth time in the event’s history when the award went to a Ukrainian author.

“Angelus” also includes the Natalya Gorbanevskaya Readers Award whose winner is voted online by the readers. This year, the netizens and the jury were unanimous in choosing Kateryna Babkina. As a result, the writer has been invited for a three-month literary residence in Wrocław, funded by Wrocławski Dom Literatury (Wrocław Literature House).
