Ołeksandr Myched | Ukraine

Oleksandr Mykhed (b. 1988 in Nizhyn) is a Ukrainian writer, cultural scholar, culture manager, curator, educator, and translator. He is a member of the Ukrainian branch of PEN International. A graduate of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, he holds a PhD in the humanities.

He is the author of ten books of prose, two of which have been published in Poland: I Will Mix Your Blood with Coal. Understanding the Ukrainian East (2023) and Codename Job. Chronicles of the Invasion (2025). His book The Language of War was included by the British daily The Telegraph among the best books of 2024.

From 2010 to 2012 he curated the literary programme at the PinchukArtCentre, and from 2012 to 2013 the literary programme at GogolFest, as well as a number of exhibitions.

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he lived for four years with his family in Hostomel near Kyiv; his house was destroyed by a missile during the first week of the invasion. He now serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
