Oksana Łuszczewska | Ukraine
Oksana Lushchevska (born 1982 in Talne) is a Ukrainian writer, author of around sixty books for children and young adults, translator, and literary scholar. She is a member of PEN Ukraine. She earned her PhD at the University of Georgia (USA), where she also taught children’s literature. She has written reviews of translated books for the American section of IBBY and published essays on Ukrainian children’s literature in the IBBY European Newsletter. She is also the author of the libretto for the musical Shusha the Mouse Show.
Her books have been published in Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Poland. She is the recipient of numerous literary prizes, including the Of Earth and Sky poetry award (2020). In 2017, her story The Wind Beneath the Sun was included in the White Ravens list compiled by the International Youth Library in Munich, and the British edition of her book Silent Night, My Astronaut was named one of the five best books of 2024 by The Financial Times.
She is the founder and curator of the creative group STORY+I and teaches creative writing courses.
