Bruno Schulz | Poland
Bruno Schulz was born in Drohobych, a small town in western Ukraine near Lviv, where he spent almost his entire life. Reluctant to leave Drohobych, he rarely and briefly left his hometown, which he considered to be the centre of the world. Schulz was a keen observer and an excellent “chronicler” of his town. Both his literary and artistic works are deeply imbued with the realities of Drohobych. In his stories, one can find descriptions of the town’s main streets and characteristic buildings, as well as portrayals of its inhabitants.
