Circus in the world of spectacles
The idea for writing this book has been with us for many years. It’s worth recalling, without false modesty, that Poland has been a pioneer in the field of circus. In 1922, the Polish Association of Performing Artists (Polzawid) was established in Warsaw. In 1952, the largest circus base in Europe was created in Julinek. Then, in 1967, a state circus school was founded, which was one of the first in the world.
However, there has been a notable lack of comprehensive exploration of the circus, both in its classical and modern iterations, within Polish literary and academic circles. We hope that this publication will at least partially fill this gap.
